Official calendar of school holidays 2025-2026 in Algeria – key dates to remember
Do you want to organize your children's school year, plan your holidays or anticipate a registration in Algeria for 2025-2026? Discover here the dates established by the Ministry of National Education. This information is regularly updated to ensure its accuracy; it is still possible to download the calendar in PDF format in the section planned.
Let us look more closely at the main periods of leave for the school year 2025-2026 in Algeria:
| Holiday | Official dates | Public |
|---|---|---|
| Autumn | 28 or 29 October – 1 or 2 November 2025 | All students & teachers |
| Winter | 18 or 19 December 2025 – 3 or 4 January 2026 | All students & teachers |
| Spring | 19 or 20 March – 4 or 5 April 2026 | All students & teachers |
| Summer (teachers) | From 9 July 2026 | Teachers, end of year |
| Summer (administrative) | 16 or 23 July 2026 | Administrative staff |
For the southern zone ("hot zones"), dates may be adjusted to take into account the local climate situation: it is prudent to check the record of your academy or establishment to avoid any doubt.
In addition, the main religious festivals (Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Mawlid, Ashura...) are additionally held, and their dates can be adjusted each year according to the lunar calendar. Tip shared by a school principal – creating a small dedicated calendar in the kitchen, with these dates, helps each family member to better organize and anticipate unforeseen holidays.
Summary tables: back to school, holiday by profile and region
Because each profile or region may be affected differently by re-entry, it is best to clearly distinguish dates according to status. This summary makes it possible not to confuse administrative return, resumption of courses or examination periods. It is relatively often found that expatriate families question several sources to adjust their organization: a reflex advised by many principals.
| Category | Date of return 2025 | Comments/Remarks |
|---|---|---|
| Administrative staff | 26 August or 7 September | Change by sector/region |
| Teachers | 7 or 14 September | Recommended local confirmation |
| Students (primary/college/lyceum) | 10 or 21 September | If southern zone: sometimes advanced return |
A final point to note – some private institutions may adopt a partially separate schedule, generally compatible with the national rhythm. A simple check with school management (or on the site) sometimes avoids unexpected unforeseen events!
In Algiers, some expatriates say that planning for the administrative re-entry about two weeks before the reception of the students allows to synchronize travel, steps and family adaptation without haste. It is relatively often recommended to adjust any holiday or travel plans around this fairly stable breakdown year by year.
Administrative methods & organizational tricks around the school calendar
Mastering the dates also means anticipating the steps: school registration, passport application, family organization... Here's what we can use to simplify everyday life.
Registering or updating your file: the essential steps
Upon publication of the calendar, it is best to validate or renew your school enrolment. In most regions, the period extends from May to July; A resumption is sometimes possible in mid-September for forgetfulness or change of situation. An administrative adviser said that vigilance at this time can save many hassles.
- Prepare identity documents and proof of domicile in advance, to limit setbacks
- Group medical certificates required (mainly for certain levels of education)
- View the digital space of registration, often available Summer, in order to monitor the progress of the file
Many portals like DemarchesDZ now centralize most of the official links: this saves valuable time when you tackle the preparation of the school file.
An anecdote comes back regularly: a family, convinced of having gathered everything together, discovers a week before the deadline that a form is missing. A last-minute check avoids such stress; It's not always obvious, but it really changes things into practice.
Good to know
I recommend you always check your school record a few days before the registration deadline to avoid last-minute stress.
Frequently asked questions and special cases: areas, private, expatriates, public holidays
Each course has its own particularities. Below you will find answers to situations encountered regularly, to remove the main uncertainties.
Hot zones: Why so many variations?
Southern academies adapt their dates fairly regularly to the climate reality. In concrete terms, there are a few days ahead of the holiday season, especially in September and June. Sometimes a student parent may be surprised by a change announced at the last minute: this is why it is always advisable to consult the official departmental website or ask for confirmation from the institution to avoid bad surprises.
Last advice to a head of establishment: official information remains the most reliable source, experience shows that local rumours are often confusing.

Public/Private: Is the calendar identical?
Most private schools align their schedules with national planning, but some choose to follow (partially or fully) French regulations, especially in some international schools. It can be assumed that the trend changes according to family profiles and their educational project.
Expatriates sometimes explain the gymnastics needed to juggle between two calendars. Not to be overlooked: Download the PDF corresponding to your school or school on its official page, which is also why preparation is essential.
Public holidays and mobile holidays: what impact?
During the school year, several holidays are to be taken into account: 1 January, 12 January, 1 May, 5 July, a few other dates and 1 November, to which are added the religious holidays (Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha...). In some years, the formalization of the lunar date may change the parity of school leave.
At each announcement, public holidays are automatically included in the Department's calendar, ensuring that the PDF available online remains up-to-date and reliable, in most cases, even if a new decision is made.
Practical tools, calendar to download, official reminders
Need a summary? You will find at any time the official calendar to download in PDF on the reference sites: Steps DZ, APS or School 0123 Sun.

One trainer mentioned that several institutions sometimes publish updates to the calendar as they approach mobile religious holidays: consider checking regularly to anticipate any changes. Some families usually make a reminder on their smartphone or simply print the latest version and display it at hand.
Personal experience: slipping the school calendar near the fridge or at the entrance remains, year after year, a reflex that reassures the whole family and simplifies a thousand small choices every day.
